Product Testing Program

Steenbergs validates its HACCP and Quality Systems through an extensive scientific testing regime.

Using random sampling, Steenbergs checks its manufacturing environment and products for microbiological and chemical contamination, as well as cleanliness and the presence of allergens.  Testing is undertaken by UKAS accredited (or equivalent) laboratories or in-house.

Microbiological Testing

Steenbergs carries out microbiological testing on its products and manufacturing environment (marked with * below), undertaking tests for the following potential microbial contaminants:

  • Total viable count
  • Escherichia coli, including E. coli O157 *
  • Bacillus cereus
  • Legionella pneumophila *
  • Listeria monocytogenes *
  • Salmonella
  • Moulds *
  • Yeasts
  • Chemical and Physical Testing

    Steenbergs undertakes tests for the following potential contaminants in its products and its manufacturing environment (marked with * below) on a random sampling basis:

  • Allergens * [in-house and external]
  • Chlorates and Perchlorates
  • Illegal Colours and Dyes
  • Heavy Metals
  • Meat and Fish *
  • Mycotoxins
  • Pesticides
  • Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons
  • Protein swabs * [in-house]

  • Through its testing regime, Steenbergs satisfies itself that its HACCP and Quality Systems are functioning appropriately.
